Morels growing in Bisbee this week

Brittany Bagby just found these distinctive mushrooms growing in sandy soil in her yard in Bisbee (elev. 5500 feet), where they’ve had heavy rains lately. They did not have any landscape mulch or bark chips nearby. There is a tree in the yard, which Brittany believes to be an elm.

I’m no morel expert, but those sure look like the real thing to me. And the love that morels have for elm trees is well known.

Wow! What a stroke of luck. Hope she gets a lot more.
