    Hi Hal,

    There are very few mushrooms of any culinary or medicinal value that grow down in the lower elevations of the state like the San Tan Valley. A couple of species of interest are discussed in this post:

    For Reishi, and most other appealing types of fungi that you may want to collect for food or health, you’ll need to wait until the summer monsoon season arrives in about a month, and then hit the higher elevations of the state. I found many Ganoderma in the vicinity of Bear Canyon Lake on the Mogollon Rim last summer:

    The Arizona Mushroom Club organizes forays that might interest you, typically in August and September, and some years in late April or early May if there has been a cold wet winter and morels have appeared.
